On Saturday 22nd March, the club held the first in what will hopefully be a growing yearly event, Transition Day for juniors!
With a clinic at our track at George Knott Reserve, members from our Little Athletics were encouraged to try out three events: javelin, hammer throw and pole vault. These events are not in the Little Athletics program so it was a great chance to introduce the young members to something new as they hopefully progress into the senior club. Steve Griffiths also put a few through their paces on the track.
A huge highlight was the attendance of Mia Gross, giving an encouraging chat to the CLAC members. The participants had a great time, enthusiastically getting involved and very quickly deciding which event they preferred, with many wanting to continue on after their instructors had had enough!
It was a successful day which only got better when finished off with a BBQ, an ever-popular event. Some of the beginners have continued their interest by coming down to the club to train. We hope to build on this next year and make the pathway from Little Aths to the senior club exciting and accessible for all.
Many thanks to:
Marty Galea for spearheading the initiative, guiding the participants at the hammer throw and doing his usual good work at the BBQ;
Adele Boylen for showing them the ropes at pole vault;
Scott Lovell for his javelin tutoring;
Steve Griffiths for his tireless running coaching;
Tony Dell as jack-of-all-trades; and
Mia Gross for her inspiration!
