For the second week in a row, we had to endure strong winds with our Saturday afternoon frolics. Probably not quite as severe, or cold, as those experienced at Ballarat last week, the conditions certainly made the task to be encountered just that little bit harder for the athletes in this, our premier event of the season.

The time honoured, ‘Club 5 Mile’, again much anticipated by most at Collingwood, saw reasonably sized
fields line up for the events. Richmond and Ivanhoe joined us to compete for the City of Yarra
Championship Medals and there were a good number of spectators in attendance to support the participants.

An interested onlooker was our guest, Ms Danae Bosler, a local councillor from the City of Yarra. (Making her second visit to a Club event, Ms. Bosler was to make a very important announcement later in the day!) The junior event saw many of our group of very promising junior runners on show. In a very similar result to 2016, Simone Maillardet and Wolfgang Cotra Nemesi were the respective winners of the Club
Championships.

The competition was keen in both divisions of the event and despite this being the hub of
the winter season, one can only be excited at the summer prospects of these kids. The performances
